The launch of Big Brother has been exciting, shocking, entertaining and, above all, boozy.

The housemates were showered in drinks on day one with a few slurred words and swaying dance moves obvious to the Channel 5 audience.

But, what are the Big Brother alcohol rules? How much can they actually drink?

Big Brother Alcohol Rules

Glasses of champagne are typically provided during the launch night while other alcoholic drinks such as beers and wine are often spotted floating around.

Although Big Brother has a long list of rules, there is no specific rule on alcohol.

Housemates can drink alcohol when it is provided to them although they may also have drinks confiscated.

Celebrity Big Brother 2018 housemate Natalie Nunn explained to The Sun Online that alcohol was only made available when BB thought the time was right, and that they were often refused alcohol or had it confiscated.

Natalie said:

I think if [Big Brother] noticed the night before they acted up with the drinks, if they did bad things they [had their drinks] cut off. I noticed that routine happening.

Alcohol is slim to none. We get some in the evening but very little. You got it on request. Rodrigo requested champagne, multiple nights he didn’t get it because they didn’t want him to drink.

Big Brother Token Rules

The rules regarding alcohol often change, as they are subjective to who is consuming the alcohol and how it makes them react.

However, there is a long list of other rules that are set in stone.

According to fansite BigBlagger, the rules surrounding the money and currency system are as follow:

Each token costs £1 and a maximum of 10 can be purchased from each shopping list. Each of these tokens can be redeemed for the following:

• 1 hour’s use of hair straighteners
• 1 hour’s use of a hairdryer
• 1 day’s worth of hot water (each hot water token is valid from the time of the request to midnight on the day of request)
• On occasion, Big Brother may offer Housemates the opportunity to exchange tokens for other luxury items. This will be at Big Brother’s discretion.

In the event of Housemates running out of food, there will always be an emergency supply of chickpeas, lentils and rice in the storeroom.

Unacceptable Behaviour

We have already seen one housemate evicted due to unacceptable behaviour.

Ellis Hillon was called into the Diary Room and told to immediately leave the house after offensive and racist tweets that she had been sent in 2014 surfaced online.

In Celebrity Big Brother, however, Roxanne Pallett was not removed for wrongly accusing Ryan Thomas of punching her.

The rules are as follow: Unacceptable behaviour includes:

• Violent behaviour towards any other Housemate (including threats of violence and actual violence) or other violent acts.
• Behaving in a way that could cause serious offence to either their fellow Housemates or members of the viewing public (including serious offence based on the grounds of age, disability, gender, race, religion, beliefs or sexual orientation).
• Serious harassment or abusive behaviour directed at another Housemate including bullying.
• Actions likely to endanger the safety of Housemates.
• Saying anything which is calculated to bring Big Brother, the producers or the broadcaster into disrepute.
• Damaging the House or its contents.
• Making allegations either recklessly or that they know to be false or libellous.
• Any other matter which Big Brother considers serious enough to warrant an intervention and punishment.
