Kruger Shalati Hotel Review, South Africa

There are two parts to Kruger Shalati: the carriages on the bridge, which hold the suites, a bar/lounge, deck and pool, and then adjacent to the bridge is the reception, dining room and deck, and another pool area. By 2022, the latter area will also be the location of Bridge House (accommodation for families and guests with disabilities). The pool on the bridge is quite something: it has been built on what was once a stand for a water tank – simply the most sublime location for a swimming pool.

Morning and late-afternoon game drives are included in the rate. In-suite spa treatments can be arranged at an additional cost. A very short walk from the hotel is Kruger Station, a public lifestyle precinct that contains a restaurant and gift shop, the last locomotive to run on this line and a 360-degree cinema. When this review was conducted in February 2021 the cinema was yet to open; it will show films and documentaries with a conservation focus.

The group that established Kruger Shalati has made a commitment to employ the majority of its staff from the community displaced from the area when Kruger was first established as a park. Many of the staff are now working their first jobs in hospitality – and when this review was conducted, two months after the property opened, it was inspiring to see how passionately the team delivered five-star service.
