If you find yourself in Frontierland, mosey on over to the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade. That is, if’n you think you got what it takes to prove you’re the deadliest shot in the West. Be warned, the Old West is a rough and tumble sort of place, full of varmints that would kill you just as soon as look at you, but if you think you got the guts, you could make yourself a legend with a few well aimed shots.
1. Where Is It?
As you may have surmised from the name, The Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade sits in Frontierland. More specifically, it is located in a log cabin like structure that sits between the Frontier Trading Post and The Diamond Horseshoe. Once you step inside the arcade, you’re transported to Boot Hill in the legendary town of Tombstone.
2. What Is It?
The arcade is simple carnival entertainment with Disney flair. There’s no show and it isn’t a ride. It’s a game of skill, where Guests can shoot at 97 targets, including bottles, cans, tombstones, and more. When you successfully hit a target, there is an animated response. Your weapon is a replica of a .54 caliber Hawkins buffalo rifle, which uses infrared to fire at the targets. A fun fact about the attraction: it’s one of the originals, opening in October of 1971. From its initial opening until 1982, the guns used lead pellets. The pellets caused so much damage that the attraction had to be repainted every night, which consumed over 2,000 gallons of paint a year.
3. Cost
While most attractions are included with the cost of your park admission, there is an additional fee to play at the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade. One dollar gets you 35 shots. Be warned that this can go pretty quickly. There’s even a slight delay between firing each round so that youngsters won’t burn through all their shots in a few seconds. With 97 targets, you’ll need to spend at least three dollars to hit them all.
