Womans finger severed in motorbike crash on Gold Coast after attempted break-in

A woman is in hospital and a man is on the run after a dramatic motorbike accident following an attempted break in.

David Brain, a pool technician, told 7NEWS on Thursday, he had left the window down on his car in Brisbane while he was working for a client.

He returned to it to find a man attempting to break into it while a woman waited for him on a motorcycle.

“They must have seen me leave the window open and thought they would come and have a look,” Mr Brain told 7NEWS.

He said he followed them across the road to make sure neither of them had managed to steal his car keys or wallet as he feared they may come back and break into his home.

The woman, still on the back of the motorcycle, was “going off” at Mr Brain.

“I was more worried about her than him, to be honest,” he said.

Mr Brain was filming the interaction, and following the confrontation, captured the moment the two sped off on the motorbike.

Dramatic footage then shows the bike slamming into fencing along the footpath, and skidding along the pavement.

The woman managed to sever her thumb during the incident, before getting back on the motorcycle with the man.

She can be seen holding her arm with blood on her hand.

She was later found on a highway before being taken to hospital where she is recovering.

Queensland Police confirmed to NCA NewsWire the male suspect is known to police, and the investigations are ongoing.

No charges have been laid.

The woman remains in hospital.
